WELCOME

(LA BIENVENIDA EN CASTELLANO ESTA MAS ABAJO)

My name is Leon Zeldis. This site is a work in progress. I keep adding items, so if you visit again after a while, you’ll probably find new material.

My work is divided by subjects, as you will see. Freemasonry has four separate sections: History, Symbolism, Philosophy and Rituals (A full bibliography is in the appropriate places). In order to facilitate access to bi-lingual readers, English and Spanish works are together, English first.

Literature is split into short stories and poetry. Here, English and Spanish are separated. All my work is copyrighted. However, I will generally authorize any bona-fide reproduction if requested before publication.

Thank you for visiting my site. I hope you enjoy reading my work. You can mail me any comments to lzeldis@netvision.net.il

A few words about myself:

I was born in Buenos Aires (1930), son of Russian immigrants who escaped from the Bolshevik revolution. A few months after my birth, the family moved to Valparaiso, Chile, where I grew up. I studied Textile Engineering in the United States (Philadelphia University ’52), and after returning to Chile I taught at the State Technical University of Santiago. I married Luisa Drapkin in 1956 and after the birth of our fourth child we moved to Israel, where I worked in Quality Control and also technical translation until retirement.

I have published hundreds of articles and stories in English, Spanish and Hebrew, three collections of poems and a book of short stories in Spanish, a book of funny quotations and a novel in English, and several books on Freemasonry.

During the 1970's I took up painting and held several solo exhibitions. Recently, to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary, I published a book-catalog with some of my paintings.

I am an active Freemason, founder or honorary member of many Masonic bodies. I was a member of Mensa Israel, and also served for 45 years as Honorary Consul of Chile in Tel Aviv. The Chilean Government awarded me the Order Bernardo O'Higgins.

Among other hobbies, Luisa and I love classical music and collect folk musical instruments.

BIENVENIDA
