VOICES IN THE NIGHT
Leon Zeldis
Murmurs, secrets blowing in the air
Whispers, broken words and sighs
A girl succumbing to entreats
A baby wails, the mother also cries
A furious shout of angry fear
Words of burning hatred spoken low
Questions, many answers, many lies
Words to be regretted, but much later
Lovers sharing secrets
Hiding slights
Open windows, all is dark inside
Who says what, who is to hear?
No one knows
Words are flying arrows
Is this the world we know?
Must we await the arrival of the dawn?
Close your eyes, block your ears
Keep dreaming of the fears
Lurking in the lonely night
